CLEARING SALE.
Messrs Henderson and Co., Ltd., report having conducted a clearing sale, as advertised, fo£ Messrs Lehany and Colyer, at tbeir property “Thistle Bank,” on Wednesday. Fortunately the weather took up and the day was fine. There was a large attendance of buyers, and from the commencement to the finish of the sale everything went off rapidly, bidding being brisk right throughout. The specially good quality of the live and dead stock helped towards a speedy and very successful realisation of the lots. The dairy herd met with keen competition, and £29 was paid for one grdae Holstein cow, eight other cows made from £2O to £22 5/-. The herd averaged £l7 5/6 per head (including the heifers introduced into the herd this season). This is probably a record for the province for a herd of its size on a May month sale, and the vendors merited such a result owing to the care and judgment they displayed in keeping their dairy stock up to a high standard. The 2-year pedigree Holstein bull fell to the bid of Mr Geo. Heath at 30gns. The young heifers sold at good figures, up to £l2 a head, and the nine averaged £ll 2/3, a fine price for the age. The horses were well known and sold well under brisk competition. The implements were in first rate order and these and numerous sundry lots also sold well. All over the sale was a most successful one. Luncheon and refreshments supplied by Mr W. Irvine, Edendale, were served during the day and were thoroughly appreciated. The following covers the main sales:—l cow at £29, 1 do. at £22 5/-, 2 cows at £2l, 1 do. at £2O 15/-, 1 do. at £2O 10/-, 3 do. at £2O, 2 do. at £l9, 1 cow at £lB 10/-, 4 do. at £lB, 2 do. at £l7 5/-, 3 do. at £l7, 3 do. at £l6 10/-, 2 cows at £l6, 2 do. at £ls 15/-, 1 do. at £ls, 1 do. at £l4 15/-, 2 do. at £l4 5/-, 3 cows at £l4, 1 do. at £l3 10/-, 1 do. at £lO 15/-, 2 do. at £l2, 1 pedigree Holstein bull 30 gns. 5 yearling off heifers at £l2, 4 do. at £lO, 7 heifer calves at £7 12/6.
