SITUATION IN IRELAND
MURDER OF SERGEANT McKENNA. CASEMENT’S CAPTOR. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z, Cable Association.) LONDON, May 5. It is recalled that Sergeant McKenna, who was attacked and killed, assisted in the arrest of Sir Roger Casement. Seven armed men threatened to blow up a house in Tuam, Galway, unless they were admitted. When the door was opened they dragged a girl from bed and cut off her hair in the backyard wdth shears. It is believed the outrage was due to the girl’s brother becoming a soldier in England. Her aged father was powerless to intervene.
