DuyEDTN, Dee. 5. At a meeting of the Presbytery it waa resolved to present a memorial to the Government to prevent the running of trains to and from Port Chalmers, on Sundays. Napier, Dec. 8. The sittings of the Supreme Court were opened to-day. The Grand Jury bave returned a true bill in the libel action against the proprietors of tbe Telegraph newspaper. WellinotoK, Dec. 8. The master painters have refused to accede to the demands of the men for increased wages, though willing to give an advance to men really worth it. The men insist upon u uniform rate, and bave struck. DtnrEDiK, Dec. 8. Tbe Hon. Mr Vogel arrived here yesterday by the s.s. Wellington. A deputation from the proposed Sugar Company waited on the Superintendent on Saturday to ask him to place a bonus on the estimates for sugar.' His Honor promised to consult his Executive on the matter.
