• ArcKLOD, Dec. 1. An agitation is being got up to send a gig's crew to the Canterbury Interprovincial Rpgatta. Mr Header Wood has been elected a member of the Provincial Council. A company to establish Turkish batlis at Onehunga is projected, with a capital of £2000 in £10 shares.' Napieb, Dec. 1. The Hovding has arrived from Christiania, all well. There were eleven deaths among the children on the voyage. There are complaints about the food supplied, and a commission of enquiry will be held tomorrow. Wellington, Dec. 1. The Sugar Refining Company is to be formed, with a capital of £120,000, and a strong directory, comprising several monied members of the Legislature, viz , Messrs Rhodes, Phnrazyn, Pearce, and Hunter, together with a number of the leading merchants. The prospectus will be issued to-morrow. Messrs W. and G. Turnbull's schooner May has arrived from Foochow in 68 days, being the smartest run of the season. She brings a large cargo of tea and rice. Messrs Bethune and Hunter have sold the Blairlogie and Pahaua stations. The former is situated in the Whareama district, and consists of 16,000 acres (more or less) of freehold land, well fenced and subdivided, with dwelling - house and usual Btation buildings, with about 10,000 sheep, and sundry stores and requisites. The latter is in the East Coast district, and consists of 15,000 acres freehold land (more or less), with dwelling-house, station buildings, and paddocks, with about 12,000 sheep, 40 head of cattle, and sundries. The total sum realised was £35,000. Kelsok, Dec. 1. There was a grand concert in connection with the Exhibition on Saturday night. There were 150 performers from aJI parts of the country. Lyttelton, Dec. 1. The Governor's yacht will be ready for service on Tuts Jay. CuitisTCHuncH, Dec. 1. Hia Excellency tbe Governor started by special coach thiß morning for Hokitika. Dunedin, Dec. 1. Mr A. C. Strode, R.M., who haß been connected with the Civil Service for 31 years, has retired. The half-holiday movement is gaining ground. The crops in the country are looking well. The Claud Hamilton brought a con-
sigmnent of 300 fine theep from Melbourne. The scarcity of house accommodation is becoming serious with so many arrivals.
