The following intelligence was received via Auckland : — Melbourne, Nov. 8. A number of extra prizes have been offered by the Ei6e Association. The girl named Brown, who shot her lover at Muekle'ord, has been remanded. The Alexandra steamer, which went ashore in the West Channel, has been got off by two steam tuga. Captain Stuart's certificate has beep impended by the Marine Board for one month. The bricklayers threaten -to strike for higher wages. The bootmakers are out on strike. The saw mill men at Echuca have struck for the 8 hours system. At a meeting of the woolbrokere, the Wool buyers resolved not to buy at the public sales, unless a draft rate of one lb per cwt be allowed. The barque Anna, bound for the Manukau, has been wrecked on King's Island. She was loaded with Jarrah i timber from Freemantle. The cargo was insured for £1000. The captain's wife and two passengers were saved. The Assembly will be prorogued next week. It has passed the Appropriation Bill. I There will be no steamer for New Zealand till next Thursday. The Audit Commissioners have re- , ported a deficiency of £9372 in the aecoucts of O'Farrell,the licensing clerk of the Land Department. It is probable that the amount would have been found to be larger, had not the receipt books been destroyed. j The Roman Catholic Chapel at Inverleiffh has been burned to the ground. j The total land revenue for last year was £865,553. The revenue from the pastoral occupation was £164,000. Sugar, yellow to good whites, £31 10s to £38. Maize is expected to improve, owing to the limited shipments ; sales ai*e being effected at 3s lOd. .No business doing in breadstuff's. 200 tons flour are being shipped to England. The mail steamer took £140,000 in gold home. 490 tons tin ore have been received during the last month from the Northern mines. The banks have reduced the exchange on London to \ premium. The ship Eastern Light, for San Francisco, struck on the Newc: stle bar. She leaked badly, and has returned here to discharge and repair damans. Bbisbase, Nov. 8. Numbers of miners are arriving at George Town, and some are returning from Charters Towers, frightened at the risk of starvation. A few are determined to reach Palinertton at all risks. The news of their efforts to reach there by the Endeavor River track is anxiously looked for. Thirty three deaths nave occurred on board the immigration ship Humboldt, from Hamburg, some from scarlatina, others from scurvy. The vessel has been quarantined for one month. The body of Gilbert ASTrigVit, solicitor, has been found in Kelly's paddock, about a wile from Mackay's, with a handkerchief tightly drawn round the neck.
