Ladbrooke, Esq., was bred by James Coker, Esq., of Downham, near Lynn, Norfo'k ; got by Prickwillow, champion of England (and considered by competent judges to be the best sire of his day) ; his dam by Old Merrylegs, by Lottery ; grandsire, Performer ; great grandsire, Pretender. Young Pretender, Quicksilver's own brother, obtained first prize at the Royal Agricultural Show at Leeds, and was afterwards sold for £750 to go to France. Quicksilver has been awarded first prize every year against all comers wherever shown. Young Quicksilver has proved himself a sure foal-getter, and maDy of his foals were sold last year at from £16 to £25. Paddocks provided for mares at current rates. New Warrior has distinguished himself a 8 the sire of Tarragon, Tim Whiffler, Volunteer, Potentate, Warrior, Romula, The Pearl, and many others, and is acknowledged to be the most successful sire ever imported into the Australian Colonies. Cboydon's performances on the turf stand unequalled by any Horse bred in Otago. As a four-year-old he won the Canterbury Maiden Plate, beating a large field, including Southern Chief, Foretop, and other good horses j he also ran third iD a large field for the Christchurch Plate, Manuka being first, with Knottingly second. Won the Town Plate at the Dunstan, beating Mainsail and others ; and the Town Plate at the Invercargill Meeting, 1871. For breeding cross-country horses and firat-clasß hacks, no horse could be better adapted. His sire's (King Alfred) stock are noted in Bteeplechasing and the bunting field in Australia, as witness the performances of Inglesides, Tarn o' Shanter, Ballarat, Shepherdess, Ada, Pyrrhus, Alfred, Archer, and many others.
