DUNEDIN.

Messrs Driver, Stewart, and Co, report for the week ending Sept. 17 th as follows: — Fat Cattle. — An unusually small supply of 45 head was offered at the Kaikorai Yards to-day ; consequently, better prices were obtained than has been the case for some time past. Of this number 30 head were from the station of John Anderson, Esq., Wyndham, and deserve special notice as being the primest and best bred cattle yarded for many months. These realised on an average £11 8s all over. Holders must not, however, be gnided by the result of to-day's sale, qr the prices obtained for Mr Anderson's cattle, as 'the state of the roads and rirers prevented several lots from coming forward, independently of the few offered being of the primest quality. We quote average prices on prime quality for immediate delivery, at about 27s 6d per lOOlbs, atid have sold for forward delivery 30 head at full rates. Fat Sheop. — Only 270 were sold at the yards to-day, about 300 being turned out. The trade seemed fully supplied for immediate requirements, and are very indifferent at buying for forward delivery. Fair quality merinos to day brought 12b; do half-breds, 18a. We quote best half-bred s at 41 per lb ; do merinos, 3fd ; and have aleo sold 750 cross- breds for forward delivery. Store Cattle.— Owing to the very heavy rains of late, graziers have not been inclined to purchase, as paddocks are scarcely in a state to receive cattle; we, however, anticipate that a large number will be required during the next tJfO months. We quote gooi 3 to 5 year old bullocks at £4 10s to £5 5s ; do cows, at £3 10s to £4 ; mixed herds, according to ages, sexes, and quality. Store Sheep. — We have numerous enquiries for crosß-breds, 4- tooth and upwards ; also for merino ~noggetts~ 'and wethers. Wo have placed 2,000 of the latter at 8s 6d to 9s 61, and a few half- and three-quarter bred ewes, with lambs at foot, at 20b eachStation Property. — We have to report the sale by Messrs Sutton Bros, of their Barewood Station, iirthis. Province, comprising 30,000 acres, with 6,000 sheep, to Mr Frank Pogeon, of Tasmania ; price and t termß. withheld. , Sheepskins.— The: attendance at the sales today was not so large a« usual, and for dry skins competition was not quite so active, but for green skins the bidding was spirited and full prices were realized. We catalogued in all 3050 skins, j of which,l66b (dry skins) were paeeed in, and the remainder sold as follows, viz : Butchers' green »£ins— Merinos, at 4s 3d to 4s 8d ; cross-breds, at 6s 8d to 6s 4d. Dry skins, at Is 9d to 4s Bd, or s|d to,7,ii,perlb for merinos ; and 3s 9d to 5s 4d each fbicerq/s-brkds, "according to'quality. Hfaeßr^pSija'fewpffered, which sold at 16s «d to 22i 6d eajjju *

Tallow is in alight request — there being very little demand for export. We have no sales to report. New Zealand Hemp continues almost unsaleable ; and, in the absence of transactions, we refrain from giving quotations. The production of the fibre is Row, however, being reduced to such narrow limits that we are sanguine a marked improvement in prices will very shortly be manifested. Tow is in good request, at up to £6 per ton— at which rate we have placed several lots. Grain.: p p r wheat we have more frequent enquiries, but few or no transactions of any importance have transpired. Quotations. — Ordinary, 5s ; good to prime, 5a 3d to 5s 6d. Fowl wheat is very saleable at up to 4s. Oats are eteady at 4s 3d for feed, and 4» 4d to 4a 61 for milling qualities.
