DUNEDIN.
Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report, or the week ending 23rd August, as follows :—
Fat Cattle.— loo head were yarded, and this number being in excess of the demand, prices 'suffered a decline of fully 8s per lOOlbs. We told 54 head, mostly good quality, at prices equal -to2osto22s6dperloolbs. "Fat Bheep.— Boo were penned. We sold 186 cross-breds at 17s 3d ; 100 merinos, at 12b 6d. Other sales were— 3oo half-breds, at from 13s to 18s ; and 100 merinos, middling quality, at from 10s to 12s 6d ; the balance being turned out. We qnote prime half-breds, 4d per lb ; ditto merinos, 3fd to Bs d. At above rates we Bold 600 half-breds privately. Store Cattle. — We have inquiries for grown cattle for delivery next month. We quote bullocks, three to five years, at from £4 to £4 10a ; spayed cows, £3 5s to £3 10s ; mixed lots, £2 "to £2 ss. . Store Sheep. — Transactions m this class of stock are very few. We have inquiries for wethers, both merino and half-bred, but not many are offering. We sold 950 cross bred ewes, in lamb, at 16s. We quote half-brwd wethers, 12a to 13s ; merinos, 8s 6d 4x> 9s. Horses.— There is a good demand for both draughts and light harness hones, with a rather bare-market for both descriptions. We sold on account of Messrs Maitland Bros., a two-year entire draught colt, by young Lofty, out of Nelly' Paisley, at a satisfactory price, the purchasers being Messrs S. B: and G. E. Parker, of Canterbury. We quote first-class draughts, £50 to £55 ; medium do, £25 to £32 ; good hacks and light harness horses, £20 to £27 ; medium do, £13 to £15 ; light and inferior, £3 to £6. Sheepskins. — Our weekly sale on Wednesday was well attended by buyers, and all the lots offered, consisting for the most part of station skins, sold at about last week's rates— viz., merinos, 2s 5d to 3s 3d ; half-breds, 4s 6d to 4s lid. ' Hides. — We have no alteration in values to report, prices being about equal to those of last week. We sold 60 medium weights at from 19s 9d to 20s 3d each. .- . Grain.— The market for wheat continues without animation, and we see little room for improvement. . The millers' stocks are somewhat reduced. We quote first class samples, 6s 3d to 6s6d per bushel. Oats continue in good demand at from 4a 3d to 4s 4d per bushel for feed, and 4s 6d for muling samples.
