The Bishop was presented with a gold watch, a carriage, and pair of horses. The Assembly rejected the proposal for a free English cable message for the Press. Mrs Daly, widow of a Police Magistrate, has been arrested for concealment of birth. Another Wool Company is starting at Gulgong. Bishop Perry will permit mnrriage with a decesaaed wife's sister. The second reading of the Permissive Bill is before the House. The total of subscriptions for the sufferers by the Rip disaster amount to £3300. There is a large body of police at Stawell to preserve order between the jumpers and jumped. Several assaults have been committed. Wallace, the negro who abused Mrs Cook, is to be hanged on the 11th. Constable Power has gained damages against the Government for wrongful dismissal. A Bill is before Parliament for the amalgamation of Savings and Post Office Banks. Sir George Bowen's economy is severely criticised by the Press. The English Cricketing Team will ■, arrive in December. Dividends : Southern Insurance, 7| ; Australasian, 10; National, 8; Melbourne and Hobson's Bay Railway Company, 6 ; Bank of Victoria, 10. Of Tookey's, all issues are quoted at £14 5s average. Scoured wool, 19d to 2Ud. Sydney. Several murders are reported from the country districts. Parliament opens on the 9th. Great fiscal changes are proposed. The year's gold yield has decreased by 15,0000z. The whaler Robert Towns has been lost. The Baroda takes 28,000 ounces of gold. Mr Downer, Commissioner of Insolvency, has been appointed Judge of the Northern Territory, at a salary of £2000. Mr Reynolds has been offered the residentship, but his decision is not known. In the Northern Territory, the crushing of the Princess Louise claim is the richest yet seen. The value of cereal export for the year is a million and a half sterling. A sale took place yesterday of fifteen hundred bushels of wheat at 5s 9d. Deals, nine by three, 9|d. Hobabt Town. Tenders for the Government five per cent, debentures range from par to one and a half premium. The Colonial Secretary, AttorneyGeneral, and Treasurer have been returned unopposed.
