(BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.) Wellington, August 15. In the House of Representatives last night, the discussion on the Tariff Bill was resumed in committee, and continued for three hours. Eventually Mr Johnston's amendment was lost on a division by 18 to 42. The following is tbe division list : — Ayes : Messrs Johnston, Gillies, Rolleston, J. C. Brown, Sheehan, Swanston, White, Thomson, JKaraitiana, Shephard, Stafford, Curtis, Brandon, C. Parker, Munro, Wood, Wilson, and Clark. Noes : Messrs Reynolds, Hunter, M'Glashan, Cuthbertson, M'Gillivray, Bluett, Mervyn, W. Kelly, Buckland, Bryce, Ormond, Bathgate, Atkinson, Fox, Richmond, Sludholme, Bell, Reeves, O'Neill, Carrington, O'Rorke, Tribe, Richardson, Webb, T. Kelly, Parker, Steward, Katene, Harrison, Henderson, Yogel, O'Conor, Andrews, Jackson, Kenny, J. E. Brown, Pearce, Parata, Taiaroa, Macandrew, Shepherd, and M'Lean. The uniform tariff of 10 per cent, was therefore carried The Bill was then read a third time. The following articles have been added to the list of exemptions : — Hair seating, curled hair, upholsterer's webbing, metal springs, hogskins, felt hoods, and shellac The report of the Civil Service Commission has been brought up, and a Bill in accordance therewioh introduced and read a first time. The second reading of tbe Auckland Waterworks Bill, moved by Mr Yogel, was negatived on a division after a long discussion. A return has been laid on the table showing the annual cost in each electoral district of forming and revising the electoral rolls, together with such classification as shows how the expenditure accrued. The total amount for the year 1872-3, was £2995. In the House to day, Mr Williams, the new member for Wanganui, took his seat and the necessary oaths. Mr Parata presented a petition from the Thames Natives against the Floatage of Timber Bill. The report of the committee on tbe importation of stock has been brought up. The Canterbury Public Library Bill was read a second time. Mr Bradahaw moved the second reading of the Mining on Private Property Bill. Mr Collins moved that it be read that day six months. The Government opposed it at first, but Mr Yogel admitting that he had not read the Bill, and the other Ministers showing ignorance of its provisions, an adjournment of the debate to Wednesday next, to consider the Bill, was granted. In the Legislative Council the Telegraph Subsidy Bill and tbe Arms Act Amendment Bill were read a second time. August 16. The House of Representatives decided last night to sit on Monday evenings. The Port Chalmers Waterworks Bill has been read a second time. The Superintendent of Taranaki Empowering Bill, and Auckland Supreme Court Site Bill have been read a third time. The Canterbury Water Supply Bill ha» passed through committee so amended as to apply to the whole Colony, and to be brought into force by proclamation of the Superintendent. The Deeds Registration Act Amendment Bill has been read a second time. On the motion that the Licensing Bill be committed, Mr G. B. Parker moved that the Speaker leave the chair, when a long discussion took place. The motion was negatived by 13 to 38. Several clauses of the Bill were passed, and progress reported.
