RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT
(Before H. M'Culloch, Esq., R.M.) Fbidat, August 8.
Hugh Ward was charged with driving four buliocks, unyoked, through the streets of the municipality on the sth inst. Defendant pleaded guilty, but stated that the animals were working bullocks, and that he was not aware of the law. This was the first case of this kind brought before the Bench, and in consideration of that, and the circumstances of the \ case, t 1 c fine was remitted, defendant being ordered to pay costs, 6s 6d. His Worship said that he would deal severely with any future offence under this clause of the Municipal Ordinance. John Hughes, for driving on the footpath in Leet-street, on Wednesday, 6th inst., was fined ss, and £1 Is 6d cost. William M'Millin, charged with being illegally on the premises of Mr James Galoraith, on the night of the 7th inst., was remanded until next day for the production of evidence. Wilson v. Hume. — This was . a charge of assault, and a medical certificate having been put in by defendant, the case was adjourned until the 15th inst.
