Auckland, July 11. Eppwright Fisher has been found crwltv o\' the murder of the mate of the whaler Rainbow, in the Bay of Islands, and sentenced to death. Mr Every Maclean has been called to the Legislative Council. The Orangemen resident in Auckland and at the Thames contemplate holding a grand demonstration to morrow. The number in Auckland is estimated at GOO, and it is said that there are more at the Thames. In the tests with Snider and Enfield rifles, the one competitor scored 13 points in favor of the Snider, and the other IS in favor of the Enfield. Commercial. — Superfine flour has advanced 20s ; southern is unchanged. Fat cattle, 2ts to 28* per lOOIbs ; half-bred wethers, 14s to 17s each ; longwools, 22$ to 295. Draught stock is in demand. The floods in the Manawatu river have subsided, and communication is again restored. Port Chalmers, July 11 Arrived. — Ivanhoe.from Auckland, and Glengary, from Liverpool. Sailed. — Yorkshire, for London, with 182 passengers. Dunedin, July 11. Commercial. — The produce market is quiet. Wheat is firm at 5s 4d ; oats dull at 4s 3d to 4s 5d ; barley, 7a. Flour is in brisk demand at £L 2 10s ; oatmeal, £25 ; pearl barley, £32 ; bran, £3. Auckland, July 14. There was no Orange procession on Saturday. The anniversary will be celebrated by a soiree to-night. Mail advices report that the New Zealand Shipping Company had commenced active operations The Punjaub will be the pioneer ship, and the Adamant; follows on June 21 Grahamstown, July 14. The Orangemen here did not walk in procession ou the 12th, but a grand picnic and excursion took place to-day. Cambridge, July 14. At a meeting of settlers, resolutions were passed condemnatory of the Government's action in regard to Sullivan's murder. New Pltmotttii, July 14. Mr Walduck has written from England advising that he has formed a private company to work the iron sand, consist* ing of large English iron masters. Wellington, July 14. Arrived. — Halcione and Schiehallion, from London. The former has been placed in quarantine, six deaths, including three from typhoid fever, having occurred during the passage. The Albion has arrived from the South. Wanganut, July 14. The Hon. Mr Fox will oppose the proposed Wellington Provincial loan. Nelson, July 14. Advices received by the mail state that Mr Brunei, the engineer of the Mont Cenis tunnel and Righi railway, reports favorably of the invention by Mr Handyside, of Nelson, for taking railway trains up steep gradients. Mr Brunei calculates that an engine of 23 tons can easily take 180 tons up a gradient of one in ten at the rate of five miles an hour, and ascend gradients of one in eight at three miles per hour. Ltttelton, July 14. The Wellington has sailed for the North with several members of the Assembly as passengers. The John Bull has cleared out for London with 1132 cases of meat, 4759 sacks of wheat, and 1219 bales of wool. Dttnedin, July 14. The attempt of the Acclimatisation Society to procure a supply of trout ova for breeding purposes has been very successful, 15,000 eggs having been obtained. The anniversary of the battle of the Boyne has been celebrated by a dinner, and passed off very quietly. The nomination of candidates for the Mayoralty took place to-day, when Messrß Mercer, Thoneman, and Barnes were nominated. Mr Vincent Pyke is about to publish a book shortly, under the title of " Wild Will Enderby," being a story of Colonial life in Victoria and New Zealand. The Secretary for Works has given notice of a motion in the Provincial Council that the line from Waitaki to luvercargill be completed throughout, the cost to be provided out of the Immigration and Public Works loan ; also that for the different branch lines, 500,000 acres of land should be set aside, provided the General Government should not make provision for their construction during the present session. Mr Davie has tabled a motion that a sum of £300 should be voted to the Cricket Club to supplement their funds for the purpose of improving their grounds. Duffy, sentenced at the sitting of the Supreme Court to receive twenty five lashes for an attempted rape on a child (in addition to a term of imprisonment), was punished to-day, and suffered intensely.
