OREPUKI.

(from a correspondent.)

Mr Daniel, M.P.C. for Riverton, of which this district forms apart under the electoral arrangements, addressed his constituents here on Saturday, 7th June, at the Courthouse. Mr James Watson was called to the chair, and nearly all the miners were present. The address was well received, and Mr Daniel carried the unanimous feeling of the meeting with him in his approval of the late action of the Superintendent. After a number of questions, chiefly relating to matters of local interest, had been asked and answered apparently fco the satisfaction of all present, a vote of thanks and confidence in Mr Daniel, proposed by Mr Harry Creasy, and seconded by Mr T. Howard, was carried unanimously, with much enthusiasm.

Mr James Taylor then stated that Messrs Thomson and party (miners) had entrusted to him the very pleasant duty of presenting Mr Daniel with a gold ring, as a mark of their appreciation of Mr Daniel's services to the district, and the goldfields generally. Mr Daniel, in accepting the ring, replied in a few appropriate words, with much feeling. The meeting was then brought to an end by a vote of thanks to the chairman.

The ring is of Orepuki gold, and was made by Mr Hislop, Princes street, Dunedin. It is chased with the letters T. D., M.P.C, and bears on the inside the following inscription, " Presented by Messrs Thomson and party as a token of esteem."
