THE ALLEGED ATTEMPT AT PER SONATION.

(TO THE EDITOB OF THE TIMES). Sib — As I have been informed that an im. putation haß been cast upon me regarding my appearauce at the poUing booth at Mavis Bush, I have to request that you wiU do me the favor of publishing the subjoined statement of the facts of the case : — On Wednesday last Mr Cochran, of Cochran and Blackwood, met me opposite tho post office with an electoral roll for the Oteramika in his hand, pointing to my name on said roll, and stating that of course I should go to the poU, on which I replied that I was not aware of the fact that my name waß on the roll, but having several qualifications in the Mataura district, from which the Oteramika roU is compUed, and there being no other person of the same name in the country that I was aware of, I had no hesitation in concluding that I was the party, and certainly would have voted in the full confidence that I was right, had not Mr Kinross informed me that he knew the individual on the roll, whose name was identical with my own, and wbo has been residing in Glasgow for the last ten or twelve years. It is needless to add that on this fact being made known to me, I declined to vote. — Yours, &c., D. M'Abthvb.

(TO THB KDITOB OF THB TIMES.) SlB, — Having been questioned by a large number of peraons as to whether several attempts at personation took placo at Mavis Bush, I consider I am justified in stating that in my opinion there is no ground for such a statement. The questions as prescribed by law were truthfully replied to, and the disgraceful state of the Provincial rolls is Uable to lead to many mistakes.—l am, kc, D. Macbobie, ' Returning Officer.
