Messrs Driver, Stewart, and Co., report for •week ending 28th May : — Fat Cattle. — The weekly market was very poorly supplied, only about 25 head of medium quality and stores being yarded. Good quality would Lave brought an advance on late prices. We quote prime beef at 22s to 23s per lOOlbs. We have sold 30 head privately at full rates. Fat Sheep.— About 600 medium quality merino wethers were penned, and sold at 8s 3d to 8s 9d. Wn quote primo mutton at 2£d to 2£d par lb. We have placed 300 cross-breds at 119 6d to 18s. Store Cattle. — With the exception of a few odd lots, we have no transactions to report, although there is a fair demand for grown quiet cattle at £2 to £3 3s for cows, and £3 3s to £4 4s for steers. Store Sheep. — As the season advarces, transactions are becoming more limited, holders looking for prices in excess of buyers' views. We have buyers at our quotations, say, crossbred wethers, Us to 12a 6d ; do ewea in lamb, 15s to 17 s6d ; do lambs, 8s 6cl to 9s ; merino wethers, under 8-tooth, 7s to 8s ; do full-mouthed, 6s to 6s 6d ; do ewes in lamb, 8s to 10s ; do old, 5s to 7s. Wool. — We held our usual weekly sale at our stores, Rattray street, to-day, when about 40 bales odd lots of greasy were catalogued, of which 21 bales were disposed of at prices undernoted. Scoured lots are in very slight demand. Catalogue. — Greasy mixed, GG over L, 2 bales, 9d; do do, D&AMcD, 1 bale, 9£d ; do locks, Spylaw, 1 bale, 3fd ; do do Hawea, 1 bale, 3d ; do do, Earnscleugh, 1 bale, 3£d ; do pieces, do, 4 bales, 4f-i ; do fleece, STJ, 3 bales, lOJd ;do pieces, do, 1 bale, 6d ; do locks, do, 1 bale, 3£d ; do fleece, V over EWff, 2 bales, 9Jd ; scoured fleece, Price, 1 bale, 21 i1 ; do locks, JBB in triangle, 2 bales, la. Shespskins continue in good request, and the competition at auction to-day was active. Butchers' green skins realised from 2s lOd to 3s Id for merinos, and up to 3s 6d for cross-breds. Dry skins, 17d to 20d each. Hides and Tallow. — No business to report. New Zealand Hemp is unchanged, the demand being very slight. Grain. — Wheat is if anything firmer, prime samples being wanted at up to 5s 1 ordinary, 49 9d to 4s lOd. Barley, none offering. In oats the tendency is still upward, although during the past few days the demand has been scarcely so brisk. We quote 3s 9d to 4s as the value to-day of good feed to prime milling.
