9 Auckland, April 17. I The departure of the Nebraska has been delayed until to-morrow. It is reported that she will not carry the mails uuless the subsidy is paid. Gbahamstown, April 17. The Natives have opened the Ohinemuri district. At a monster meeting it was resolved to petition the Government to issue regulations. One of the speakers charged Mr M'Lean with obstructing the opening of the district. Wellington, April 17. At tbe land sales to-day, 38,000 acres realised over £22,000. Mr Reynolds will be the new Colonial Secretary. The Provincial G-overnment of Wellington propose to borrow £210,000 for public improvements, upon debentures, at a rate of interest not to exceed 6£ per cent. The New Zealand University Council have re-elected Mr Tancred Chancellor and Mr Carleton Vice- Chan eel lor. It was decided that under-graduates of the New Zealand University studying afc the Otago University should be admissible to a B.A. degree after keeping a three years' term. Blenheim, April 17. Sailed. — Chaudiere, for London, with a cargo valued at £21,000. Timabu, April 17. At tbe races, tbe Hurdle Bace was won by Sir Tatton ; Maiden Plate, Alice Gray 1, Hurricane 2 ; Timaru Cup.
