OTAGO TEACHERS.

(to the editob of the times). Sib,— Mr South having chosen to revive this subject, I simply say that, notwithstanding the length of his letter, he has avoided the point at issiw. " Advance New Zealand" has made certain imputations upon an Otagan school com- i mittee, and Otagan teachert, supporting the same , by certain facts. As I contended that these facts were unreliable, I challenged the writer to prove them- I repeat the challenge, being sure of the ground on which I rest it. If Mr 8. feels ' hurt at the (to him) apparent assumption in my letter of his identity with " A. N". Z.," he cannot deny having given me information reasonably , warranting such an assumption, supposing it to exist. I detest anonymous writings where imputations against personal character are msde, and upon public grounds alone deemod it my i duty to reply to "Advance New Zealand." . School committees and teachers have sufficient enxiety in the faithful discbarge of theiT duty to warrant the expectation of their being spared from attack by persons whose position should . teach a different course of action. Holding that , he who allows the continuance of wrong, while having the power to set it right, is equally guilty with the perpetrator, I could not consistently allow the letter of " A.N.Z." to pass unnoticed. Should it be shown that, , notwithstanding the " ground" on which I rest my ease, I am, after all, mistaken as to the particular references, and therefore as to the identity of " A.N.Z.," I shall be very glad, and to prevent any delay in clearing up the matter, 1 will thank you to post to Mr S. (at my cost) a copy of your issue in which this letter appears. Personally I have no quarrel or unpleasantness with Mr S , but feeling pained at the unwarrantable statements of " A.N.Z.," I have given him ■opportunry of either a disclaimer or justification. ( — I am, 4c, Thomas Pebkiks. '
