THE MAKAREWA ROAD BOARD.
— , — ■« The Makarewa Road Board met in the Junction Hotel, Waikiwi, on Saturday, the 22nd inst. There were present Messrs M'Arthur (chairman) M'lvor, Toßhack, Blakie, Hamilton, Trumble, and Bennett. The chairman read circulars from the Provincial Secretary, from which it appeared that all money raised by general rates, and lodged in the bank by the 31st inst., would receive the Government subsidy, but that the subsidy must be spent only on opening up new roads. The Board, having arranged their plans to suit this requirement, proceeded to open tenders for work on the different roads. One contract in the Q-ap Road was let to Mr Gray, one at Byal Bush to Mr Crombie, and one in the Waikiwi to Mr Knipe. The Clerk was instructed to advertise for fresh tenders for the rest of the worki, and the meeting then adjourned to Saturday, the 29th inst.
