MAKAREWA ROAD BOARD.

The Makarewa Road Board met in the Junction Hotel, Waikiwi, on the 15th insfc. All the members were present. . The minutes of the previous 1 meeting were read and confirmed. The notice of motion relative to the special rate throughout tha various bu'tdivisiona lapsed, as there appeared to ba very little prospect that the siid rate would be nubsi Jised by the Government. It was moved by Mr M'Lvor, seconded by Mr M'Lean, and unanimously carried, " That the Bo>ird now levy a general rate of one shining in the pdund on all fateable property within the district." It wai moved by Mr M' Lean, seconded by Mr Bennett, and agreed to, " Tb.it a special rate of sixpence in the pound be levied on all rateable property within the "Winton Subdivision of the Makarewa Road District." Tenders for certain works on the Gap District Road were opened, aad the following, being the lowest, were accepted : — Contracts No. 3 and 6, Mr James Hamilton, Forest Kill ; contract Ne. 4. Mr John Bennett, Forest Hill. It was moved by Mr Matthew Bennett, seconded by Mr Trumble, and agreed to, " That all expenses incurred on the roadline between the Wallacetown and Winton subdivisions be borne equally between said subdivisions." The clerk was instructed to write the Enu;infc«r, requesting him as »oon as possible to lay off the line of road through, tha bush, commencing at the North road, and running through Weymms street, Winton, westerly to section 14, block 6, Winton Hundred. A petition was received from Messrs Reyburn, Coster, and other settlers of Grove Bush, asking that a certain road, shown on the map as a dotted track, might be proclaimed a main district road. The said gentlemen, being present, were informed that the Board had no power to comply with their request, but that the track at present in übo would be kept in reasonable repair till such time as the road was opened. It was moved by Mr M'Lean, seconded by Mr Bennett, and agreed to, " That the Bank of Otago be the Bank of the Board." Saturday, the 29th met., was fixed as the day for hearing appeals against the valuation, and the clerk waa directed to insert the necessary advertisement* in the local papers. The meeting then adjourned till Saturday, the 22nd inst., at 9 30 a.m.
