RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

(Before H. M'Ciuloch, Esq., R.M.). ! Tuesday, 18xn Maech. Patrick Higgins was charged with stealing a hat mid coat, the property of B. Gallagher, from a tent at the railway camp. The hat and cotit which Higgins wore in the Court were identiaed by Gallagher as his property, which he had left in hia tent in charge of his mate, Howson. The prisoner's explanation was that ifowson had lent him the hat and coat. At the request of the police the case was adjourned to procure liowson'a evidence. Id the meantime Higgins pleaded guilty to a, charge of being drunk and disorderly in Dee-atreet on the previous evening, aud as this waß his second offence within a iew days he was fined 10a, or 48 houra' imprisonment. Slaughter-house licenses were granted to Messrs J. H. Smith and Co. for a site in the grou-id belonging to the Acclimatisation Society on the North Road, and to Messrs Froggatt and Patterson, for a site on the East Koad, nearly opposite the cemetery. Thdbsdat, 20th Maech. Patrick Higgins, charged on Tuesday, with stealing a coat and hat, was brought up on demand. The witness, Howson, who the • prisoner stated had leut him the coat and hat, appeared and corroborated the statement. The prisoner was accordingly discharged.
