SWITZERS.
(from: our own correspondent. ) March 15. TheSwitzers race meeting came off on Thursday and Friday, 13th and 14th inst. There was a fair attendance of spectators, and the weather was fine, the rain of the previous day having freshened and softened the turf of tbe course. For the Maiden Plate there were 6 entries. Mr Henry Hill's C^ueen Bee won easily in a canter, Mr R. Foulkes's horse Curacoa being second. The next event was the Switzcr's Handicap, which waa a walkover for Lyndon, 5 other nominations having declined. The Ladies' Purse was won by Mr W. Lawrie'a Blackbird, Mr Brenchley's Prairie Flower being a good second. A Hack Selling Kace was the best race of the day, the first heat being won by Welcome, by a nose, Katie Darling, the second horse, winning the other two. On the second day, the first event was the Hurdle Kace, nine leaps of 3tt. 0 inches, two miles and a quarter, for which there were five entries. Mr Ward's horse Nigger was scratched at the it is presumed on account of the stiff appearance of tbe fences. A splendid race followed, between Falcon and Don Pedro, who took their leaps together over the whole nine, Falcon winning by a length, and the pace throughout waa good. Bob Laverty's admirable and bold riding of Falcon was no doubt the cause of this result. The next event was the Wakaia Handicap, won by Mr Ward's Lyndon, Mr. Ward's other horse Nigger having been entered to save a walk-over. Then followed the District Handicap, which was won by Mr A. Matheson's Lady of the Lake, Mr Skene's Renown being second. Salamander Sam ran against a post, and rolled over his rider, who, s&range to say, was not much the worse, and rode tbe winner of the next race. The Consolation Stakes were won by Mr Brenchley's Prairie Flower, Mr Foulkes's Curacoa being second. The Hurry Scurry, which finished the day, was won by Katie Darling, who had been sold the previous day, as winner of the selling race, to a Mr Davidson. A collection was made for a Hospital Kace, to be run on the Saturday, amounting to about £10, but on account of the heavy rain which fell on that day, the event did not come off, and the money, I presume, will be handed over to the treasurer of tbat excellent institution without deduction.
