SB9 A Church of England tea party was given in the Oddfellows' Hall on Wednesday evening, and proved a very pleasant means of enabling the congregation to meet the Bishop. The Rev. W. F. Oldhatn presided in the chair. Three long tables were abundantly supplied with all sorts of good things, and ably presided over by lady members of the Church. The whole affair proved a great success, the ball being well filled, not only with English Church members, but with various others of different denominations, showing a very good feeling, which must have been most pleasing to the English Church minister. The Rev. Mr Boss, though holding a meeting afc his own church, made time to pay a short visit to the Hall, and Mr M'Gillivray, M.H.R., gave a short address. Mr Oldhara also made a short speech, but the feature of the evening was the address by Bishop Nevill, which was most interesting and instructive, and giren with much true Christian feeling and earnestness. He had a kind and appropriate word for everybody. Several ladies and gentlemen added to the enjoyment of the evening by contributing selections of sacrtjd music, both vocal and instrumental. The Star Dramatic Troupe, during their visit, were patronised by very fair houses.
An old stager was compelled by his worthy spouse to "join the cold water army," which he did, promising never to touch a drop of anything else except in sickness. He has never been well since. An Illinois jury rendered a verdict of $3000 in favor of a man who broke his. leg in landing from a packet at Gaieua, where the facilities for getting ashore were imperfect.
