H. E. Osborne, auctioneer, reports the sale of section 21, block LXIL, Town of Invercargill, for £33. Esk-street, February 3rd, 1873.

D. Macrorie, auctioneer, reports :— There was an excellent attendance at the Gummy's Bush sale on Saturday last, and prices were' on the whole satisfactory- Cows brought £5 to £6, heifers £3, and jearlings 35s ; horses from j £11 10s to £20. Furniture, tools, &c, brought their full value On Monday I sold a very superior filly, by Secundus, showing ker breeding, and with good action, for £18 10s, and at a furniture sale subsequently tha bidding was animated. Chest drawers, £5 ss, couch, £4 15s ; ■ewing machine (Grover and Baker) £6, kitchen chairs 4s, &c, &c. Invercargill, 3rd February, 1873.

During the year ended 31st December 1872, the gold exported from New Zealand amounted to 445,370 ozs, of the value of £1,731,261. For tbe previous year the export was 730,029 ozs, of tbe value of £2,787,520, thus showing a fallingoff in the value of the yield of gold in the Colony of £1,056,259. Th« following return will show that the deficiency has occurred principally in Auckland, where the difference in the yild iepresents a sum of £819,337 : — 1872. 1871.

The Thames Adrertisar has baen shown, by Captain Best, Harbor- Master, a ripe fig, of th ; a ■eason'd growth, weighing 5£ ounces, the produce of a tree in bis garden, from which he last year gathered brer 6000. Considering that the tree is Terr young, this fact augurs well for the suitability of the climate here for the cultivation of the fig; The tree is now of enormous dimensions, and will this year probably produce a much larger quantity of fruit than it did last season.
