APARIMA ROAD BOARD.
The Board met in the house of W. ALyon, Esq., Islabank, on Saturday, the 25th inst. ; James Mackintosh, Esq., in tbe chair. After the correspondence was read, the appointment of a Surveyor and Engineer to the Board was considered, and Mr W". Dawion, C.E.,was unanimously appointed to that office for 12 months. As formerly notified the Board proceeded to fix the rate« for the current year. The valuation for the whole district amounts to £9820 10s. The Board, taking into consideration the great want of roads in the district, and the great inducement offered by Government towards roadmaking, decided to levy a general district rate of Is in the pound, and also a special rate of Is in the pound, in each of the subdi visions of the district. Both rate* are to be paid on or before the 6th
day of March, npxt ensuing;. The Board is very desirious to hare the rates collected immediately, bo as to secure the subsidy, and the collector was icstructed to take lecjal proceedings to recover all ratea remaining unpaid at that date. It was resolved that T. M. Macdonald, Esq., Invercargill, be requested to act as Solicitor to the Board. All notices and advertisements, and anything required by the Ordinance to be inserted in a newspaper, it was resolved should be inserted in both Invercargill weekly papers. At a former meeting the members of each subdivision were appointed a Public Works Committee for such subdivision — said Committees to report to the Board the works most necessary to be done, and the manner in which the same are being carried out. The Board also resolved unanimously I that the ratea collected in each Bub- : division shall be expended in the subdivision in which the same are collected, j and that a Dr. and Cr. account shall be opened in the books of the Board showing the amount duo to each subdivision. Papers, &c, belonging to the late Jacob's Eiver District Road Board, the late New River District Road Board, and the late Waimatuku District Road Board, were laid before the Board. The collector was instructed to take immediate «tepa to recover all rates authorised to be levied by the G-eneral Road Board in the late New River Road District, and the late Jacob's River Road District, which still remain unpaid. The Board resolved to meet again on Saturday, Bth February, for the transaction of general business. It will then be determined what works are to be immediately proceeded with. The Board will hold a special meeting on Monday, 3rd March next, to hear objections (if any) to the valuation or assessment, and the clerk was instructed to request the valuer to be present. The members of the Board, &c, enjoyed Mr Lyon's hospitality, as on former occasions.
