Auckland, Jan. 13, Mr Macfcay has almost concluded the purchase of two, large blocks of land, oo both of which gold has been found. One tribe has already received payment, and it is believed that Government will soon acquire the right of all the others interested. It is still uncertain whether Tawhiao and Manuhiri will attend the ( meeting to be held on the 21st at Maungatautari. A strong public feeling has been expressed against the 20s household education rate. The newspapers are full of letters on the subject. An indignation meeting is projected. In view of the public opposition thegentlemen appointed to collect the rate refuse to act. Napier, Jan. 13. The cutter Margaret, of Napier, has been seen, bottom upwards, iv Tolago Bay. All hands are supposed to have been lost. Hokitika, Jan. 13. The Luna passed here after landing two passengers. She grounded in Milford Sound, and had to be lightened, but got off uninjured, after two days' delay.
