D. Macrorie, auctioneer, report? :— The sale at Otautau brought together a larger attendance than might have been anticipated, - and on the whole the rates realised fully sustained the reputation the Jacob's River District bears for saiisfactory prices. The horses only should have run into more money, as from the character they possessed in the neighborhood, and the strain on the side of both sire and dam, j they were well worth the attention of the settlers. Those broken in realised from £10 10s to £15 lls ; 2, 3, and 4 year old colts and fillies from £8 10s to £14 10s. The oaten hay in Etack brought £3 per ton ; dray, £10 10s ; saddle and bridle, £3 6b; harness (shaft) £3 3j; leading, £H 8s j harrows, sOs ; fencing wire, 27a per cwfc ; sheepwash tobacco, 4d per lb ; woolpacks, 2s 6i each. Tools and furniture brought excellent prices, and I arranged for part of the house utensils, &c, to be taken by the incoming lessee at valuation, which was satisfactory to all parties. In Biverton some informality in complying with the Act, prevented the Municipal reserves from being offered for a few weeks, and the furniture, cattle, and horse sale was but languid. I sold eight shares in the Western District Building Society, representing a value of £82 odd, but subject to a mortgage of £50, and £21 of fines, &c, for the sum of £9, being slightly under par. Albion Yards, 19th December, 1872.
