The Storm Bird arrived at the wharf at 7.30 p.m. on th.9 27th r ; she left PdH Chalmers at 11 p.m. on the 26th, and experienced a heavy head »ea as far as the Nuggeta, from there fine weather. Discharged her Bluff and Winton cargo, and sailed for Invercargill on the following morning. • The barqiUL Matilda seems to be iv luck. She " left Port William on the 20th, after stowing 10 tuns of .oil; taken ;ffom a sperm whnle caught in the -She returned again to tbe same pork •^ori- the 24th with another 10-tun sperm whale, caught within ten miles of the Solaniers. Capt. Fraser, of the s.s. Storm Bird, reports passing! jtwp vessels off the Nuggets, bound west. They we?e supposed to be the Thomas and Henry, for the Bluff, and the barque G-lenshee, for Newcastle. Capt. Vaux lepoTts thtA a smart ehr>ck of earthquake was felt on board the Ironside at 1.30 p.m. on the 20th. It lasted for about 20 seconds, and the vibration resembled that resultin? from the surging of a cable chain over the windlass. The ship at the time was about fifteen miles off the Nuggets.
