THE Committee of the Southland Hospital are desirous of bringing under the special notice of the general public in the district the present position of the institution. Owing to the number of patients treated during the current year having been greatly in excess of the usual average, there is a pressing necessity for increased effort being made to provide for its maintenance. In making this appeal, the committee would especially notice the fact that, while most of the patients treated are from the country districts, ' but few contributions arrive from those <31stncts, with the exception of those annually collected on the stations at shearing time, and they therefore trust that this appeal, addressed particularly to the country settlers, will be liberally responded to.
