ACCIDENT TO THE S.S WALLABI.
■Rather a sin/juiir accident happened to the s.s. Wallabi on the evening of Friday last. The vessel arrived a>onj»nda tho Tnvercargill wharf in the course of the afternoon, and the greater part of "her cargo wjis discharged before operations ■were stopped for the evening 1 . As the tiie receded the vessel gradually becaras suspended araidehipa upon * smaU roudbank which h&8 Yeeen'-ly formed alongside the wharf, and the weight of the remaining cargo being in the foreoart of the vessel, while tie engines are near the s^ern, the «ull proved too weak to stand the unusual strain . After ono or. two premonitory groans, the iron plates with which the vessel is covered parted fin* guveral feet on each sid« with a loud noise. Efforts were at once made to etop the leak thus occasioned, the remaining cargo on board being landed with every possible despatch. A survey was held on Saturday, and the injury proving less serious than was at Brst supposed, it is intended to have it temporarily repaired in order tkat the vessel raay be taken to Dunedin for a thorough overhaul. The necessary repairs are expected to be completed in the course of a day or two.
