CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

The annual general meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held on Wednesday. There were present Mewrs Gribbs (chairman), Wateon, Calder, Gilmour, Yule, Macrorie, Blacklock, Macdonald, and Hare. The following new members were elected :— Messrt Matheson, Cuthbertaon, Pratt, Mitchell, and Blackwood. The Treasurer submitted the balancesheet for the past year, showing a credit balance of £39 14a 6d at the disposal of the Chamber. The election of officers for the enaning year was then proceeded with, and resulted aB follows : — Chairman, MrCalderj Vice-Chairman, Mr Gibbs ; Committee, Messrs Macdonald, Blacklock, Watson, Matheson, and Cuthbertson; Auditors, Messrs Yule and Macrorie j Treasurer, Mr Nutter. The sum of £15 was Toted to the Secretary, for his serrices during the past year. ; A discussion took place relatire to th« scale of mercantile charges attached to the rules of the Chamber, particularly with regard to a supposed ambiguity in

the rate fixed for commission on transactions exceeding £500. It was resolved that the Committee be requested to consider (he scale of charges iv the rules, and suggest such alterations as they may deem necessary, and report to a general meeting of the Chamber to bo called at an early date.
