MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
» The usual weekly meeting of the Municipal Council was held yesterday evening. There were present the Mayor, and Councillors -G-arthwaite, Blackwood, Pratt, Lumsden, Jasgers, and Goodwillie. Councillor Lumsden moved and Councillor Pratt Beconded : — " That seeing the Council are desirou3 to provide for the proper drainage of the streets at the several points crossed by the railway, the Town Engineer be requested to inaka levels and plans of drains at said points ; and that the Railway Engineer be communicated with in reference thereto." This motion was carried without dissent. A letter was read from the Town Engineer, reporting that the cost of removing the sand bank at the jetty would be about £5 10s, and that repairs were required for the trucks, which, exclusive of new wheels, would cost about £4 13s 6d. It wa9 resolved that the Town Engineer be instructed to get the aand bank removed at about the cost estimated, and that enquirr should be made as to the cost of new wheels for the trucks. Councillor G-arthwaite moved, and Councillor Pratt seconded :— " That the Town Engineer be instructed to prepare plans and specifications for the formation and drainage of Spey-street throughout, keeping in view the main drainage of the town," which, after discussion, was unanimously agreed to. Air Scandrett, the valuer, laid the completed valuation for the current year before the Council. . It'was resolved thafe a special meeting be held on Monday night, to take tiie valuation into cousideration. The total amount was £12,318. Councillor Lumsden moved, and Councillor G-arthwaite seconded : —^ " That a committee, consisting of Councillors Lumsden, Jaggers, and Blackwood, be appointed to consider the advisability of dividing the town into wards, and to report-, within a month, on the equitable boundaries thereof." This, after so no discussion, \v;ib uuanitnoiuly affirmed. It was resolved thnt the Engineer be requested to prepare fistimatea of all the works recommenc)»<\ by th-* Public Work* Committee. The Council then adjourned.
