RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before H. M'Culloch, E5q.,8,.M.) Monday, 14th Octobeh. Richard Xt/an, was fined 5s or 24. hours' imp risonment for bc'mg 3i>unk and disorderly in Dee-?treet on Saturday evening. Thomas Smith, charged by the Inspector of Nuisances with allowing one horse to stray within the limits of the town, was fined ss, and 5s 6d costs. The following similar charges were also disposed of :— Annie Baird, allow-in? one calf to Btray within the town, fined 5s and 5s 6d costs. Frederick Gerbes, keeping one unregistered goat ; fined 5s and 5s 6d costs. Martin Hughes, keeping two unregistered goats ; fined 5s for each goat, and 5s 6d costs. William Dunn, allowing one calf to stray within the town ; fincH 5s and 5s 6d costs. Alexander M'Kenzie, removing and depositing in Dee-street filth, rubbish, and other offensive refuse ; fined 5s and 5s 6d costs. Hall v. 31 — Claim for £33 15s 8.1. TVIv Wade for plaintiff. Defendant, who lives near Riverton, did not appear. Judgment for plaintiff, with costs, £4 7s. Charles Dixon, charged by the poHce with assaulting Ah Chin, on the evening of the 12th inst., in the bar of the Southern Cross Hoi el, pleaded guilty. The assault was descrioed by Henry Hodson, an eye-witness. The Magistrate characterised the assault as a most unprovoked and cowardly act, and sent the accused to prison for seven days, with hard labor.
