RIVERTON.

(FBOM A COBTtESPOSDENT.) The third annual general meeting of the Western District Building and Land Society was held at the Court-house here ob the evening of Monday last, Mr J. W. Matthews, the President, being in the chair. The surplus funds were disposed of at a premium of 1-Ls per share. The following report and statement of accounts were submitted to the meeting : — REPORT. "Your Committee hare pleasure in submitting the third annual report and balance-sheet of the Society, and trust you will all derive satisfaction from the result of the past year's operations of the institution. " £1225 (>qual to 49 shares) has been advanced to 11 members, the largest sum borrowed being £250, and the smallest £25, the average per borrower being £111 7s 3|d. The total premiums realised thereon amount to £101 153, the highest being £4 2s per share (£25 each), and the lowest ss, the average per share being £2 Is 6d. " The net profits for the year amount to £275 3s sd, equal to 11s per share, of which amount 20 per cent, has been carried to the reserved profits account, in terms of Rule XV. ; 8s 9d per share to credit of members' account, and the balance to next year's account. "In terms of Eule XXIII. the six senior Members of Committee, viz., Messrs Murchie, Mills, Petchell, M'Donald, Instone, and Daniel now retire. Messrs Tall and Robinson, elected by your Committee to fill vacancies, also retire, but all are eligible for re-election."
