L | London, Aug. 2, afternoon. Mr Torrens has been created a K.C.M.G. There is great agitation throughout the north of England in consequence of the high price of meat. Indignation meetings are numerous in the large towns, and resolutions have been passed to abstain from the purchase of meat. Butchers are joining in the movement. Some of them have commenced the sale of Australian meat. Mr Tallerman has visited Newcastle, Huxtable, and various Lancashire towns. The importation of Russian cattle is prohibited on account of disease. Mr Wiseman is the new Wesleyan President. The wool sales closed firmly. Prices latterly have been equal to the highest rates. 300,000 bales were catalogued, and 200,000 were left over to the September sales. The foreign purchases amounted to 80,000 bales. The arrivals for the September sales amount to 50,000 bales. Preserved meats are advancing. Stocks, 110,000 cases. Arrived — Christian M'Ausland.
