A FEARFUL ENCOUNTER.

The Arnprior Weekly, a Canadian pnper, Iras the following : — Messrs Muhlig and llolcoinb, the proprietors of a sawmill at Moorville, in t'ne township of* Tork, have recently had in their employ a German, Gothlieb Kraut, head sawyer, and Frank Bedford, engineer. Between them, for some time past, have existed bitter feelings, which grew to an altercation, and finally terminated in blood. Bedford attacked Kraut while at his work, and the two grappled. Mr Holcomb, the proprietor, being present, sprang forward to separate them. At this moment, they fell upon the lever and started the machine ; the saw caught the f. .ot of Mr llolcomb, dividing it in twain and passing up the limb, cutting the flesh entirely fro n thr- calf of the log. Kraut, seeing the danger his employer was in, left Ins antagonist, and was releasing him from his perilous position, when Bedford seized the cant hook and brought it down with full force upon the head and shoulders of the Gerniau, who, bleeding and mangled, first extricated Mr Holeonib from the saw, and then tied, followed by (he threafs and curves oi' h'la assailant. Bedford was immediately arrested. During his examination afterwards before Justice Bowers, he managed to make his escape. Sheriff' Webb, of Detroit, tracked him to Hastings, captured him, and brought hitn back. The prisoner has since been sent to Moorville, and his examination has recommenced. Great indignation is felt toward Bedford, and it is to be hoped that he will meet his due and lull deserts.
