■ NEW TOBK. At Stokes's trial for the murder of Fisk, the jury were unable to agree. The jury were therefore discharged, and Stokes returned to prison. 3000 Alsatians and natives of Lorraine, headed by a band, marched to the office of the French consul, and signed papers of allegiance to France. Grant's return as President ie considered certain. Forty persons have been killed from sunstroke in one day. The engine of a night express train, near Belleville, in Canada, jumped off the track, causing death and fearful tortures to scores of passengers, 25 of whom were killed, and 65 injured. Very few escaped uninjured. A Spanish war-vessel has been instructed to seize and sink the American steamers Virginian and Edgar.
