DUNEDIN, August 16. The celebration in honor of Sir Walter Scott's birthday was a great suceeas. Mr Anthony Trollope did not attend. Wheat is firmer at 5s 3d. : Oats quiet at la lOd to 2s. Barley is scarce, malting samples quoted at 5s 6d. Flour dull at £13. Wellington, August 19. The first sod of the Hutt railway was turned to-day with great ceremony. The Armed Constabulary, ahd the Artillery and Infantry Volunteers attended, also the Cadets and members of the Fire Brigades. The Governor turned the first sod, when a royal salute was fired. Mr Brogden presented an address to the Governor, who replied in appropriate terms. There was a great crowd present. The afternoon is being observed as a holiday. Mr Vogel delivers his Financial Statement to-morrow evening. The Government summary will be sent to all the Press. ____________________
