TROUT AT CHRISTCHURCH.
(to the editob op the roues.) Sib, — I observe from a paragraph in your paper, taken from the Lyttelton Times, that the trout in the Acclimatisation Gardens at Christ* church ore spawning, but that the fish, being of the " large river variety," will only yield 200 eggs. each. Can you inform me, Mr Editor, where this neir description of fish comes from ? Certainlv not from Tasmania, where the trout yield 1000 to each lb weight of the fish, and which I ignorantly supposed was the average spawning of all the salmonidce. . I certainly cannot recommend the introduction of this very uiiprolific breed of trout into New Zealand, and I should strongly recommend the Chrißtchurch society to dispose of them as quickly as possible, and get a better sort, or it " will be long ere their rivers are stocked.— -I am, &c, Pbopositi Tbsax. . Inveroargill, August 3, 1872.
