WESTERN DISTRICT FARMERS' CLUB.
(PEOM A CORBESPONDENT.) A meeting of the Western District Farmers' Club was held at Mr William Calder's on the evening of Friday, the 26th ; Mr John M'lntyre, Vice-President, in the chair. The subject of a central meeting-place for the Club was brought up. Several comments having been made on the advautages and disadvantages of having only one meeting place, and the desirability of having the subject discussed before as full a meeting as possible, it was agreed to ask the President to bring the subject before the next meeting. A bag of Kamsdale Norway oats has been presented to the Club by C. Basstian, Esq., M.P.C., being part of the proceeds of five bushels imported from America by him last season at a cost of £19. They were sown by Mr Basstian on their arrival, but by far too late, and the season being too dry, gave nothing like a fair trial to the oats. There was considerable discussion as to what was the best means of fairly testing them, when it was moved by Mr E. Hazlitt, seconded by Mr W. A. Lyon, and carried unanimously, " That the oats be divided equally amongst those members who wish them, as the best means of trying how they would yield in all sorts of land. Those wishing them to apply to the Secretary before the Ist of September, when they will be divided amongst those who have applied." Messrs Chris. Basstian, Theo. Daniel, and Fred. Sutton were admitted members. Messrs James Hamilton and Fred. Sutton were appointed auditors. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the proceedings.
