ANTI- CATHOLIC EXTRACTS.
Sra, — I beg to state that lam forced to discontinue my newspaper correspondence, and for the following reasons, viz. : — Whereas, the object I proposed to myself in this controversy was to make known " the truth" and the "true religion," it would be vain to hope it could be gained so long as you would publish extracts similar to those under the headings " Christianity in Japan," and " Religious Conflict in Germany," which appear in your issue of the 26th insfe ; moreover, I would stultify myeeif by writing letters for publication in a paper (supposed to be neutral ground) which letters would appear side by side with anti-Catholic extracts. The case might stand otherwise, if we could see in your paper anti-Protestant extracts ; not. exactly that I want to see anti-Proteetant, but that I don't wish to see anti-Catholic publications. At the same time I do not presume as it were to dictate to you what should be the tone oi your paper, and as Protestants are in the majority here, it is perhaps more natural its tone should be Protestant. As it is my tu-n, or as boys cay at a game of cricket, my hand now, you will, I know, have the goodness to publish the letter I hereby send you as an answer and good- bye to 'my friend, " A Catholic, but not a .Fapißt," as well as to my numerous other friends. It was only after my letter was written, when having another look through your paper, that I noti-ed the above-mentioned extracts. To give Cfflsar his due, I must say in conclusion, that up to last Friday's publication, I was shown by your paper nothing but fair play, not only that but respect and courtesy, and for which be good enough to accept my sincere thanks, and believe me, Yours, &£., J. CABDEK. Bt. Mary's, July 29, 1872.
