Dunedtit, July 26. At a meeting of cricketers it has been resolved to accept the Canterbury offer to arrange for a visit from the English eleven. A public meeting at Lawrence has adopted a memorial to the Government urging the construction of the Tuapeka line of railway. The Board of Health recommend the adoption of a clause in the Health Act now before the Assembly, making compulsory the vaccination before landing of all persons arriving from foreign ports who have not been vaccinated. The Court of Enquiry into the wreck of the brig Our Hope (at Oamaru) attaches no blame to the officers of the vessel. The barque Hydra foundered off the "West Cape. She was caught in a gale on the IGfch, when the pumps were making sixteen inches of water per hour, and the leakage increasing on the 24th, the ship was abandoned with six feet of water in her hold. The brig Ottawa, which stood by for two days, took the captain and crew on board. The loss of the cargo is greatly felt here, as coal is very scarce. The vessel was insured for £1000 in the New Zealand Company's office, and the cargo for £1200. At a meeting of agricultural delegates it was resolved to hold a Provincial show in Dunedin. Grady's claim at Skipper's has struck a rich lead. £5000 has been refused for a sixth share. The Evening Star, in its editorial today, saya the report of the debate in the American Congress in re the subsidy has been ingeniously circulated by the opponents of the service. The speeches were delivered early in 1871, and the reference was to a subsidy applied for by a China line, not Webb's. These facts were known to the papers printing the report.
