Tbe Goldfields members held a caucus to-day, at which it was agreed to advocate a reduction of the gold duty, sixpence an ounce this session, and sixpence each succeeding session until it is abolished. The New Zealand Gazette shows the Customs returns for the quarter ending 30th June to be £202,899, against £183,601, for the corresponding quarter of last year. CHsisTcmracH,. July 22. Mr J. C. Wilson is a candidate for Heathcote, vacant by Mr Hall's resignation. Mr 0. J. Steveni declined to stand. DmfEDiN, July 22. The Luna called at Oamaru yesterday, for the Hon. Mr Miller, who has joined the Government as Mr Hall's colleague in the Legislative Council. The election for the Mayoralty resulted in Mr Fish obtaining 1093 votes, against Mr Eossbotham's 414.
