CUSTOMS RETURNS.
The following has been collected as Customs "Revenue during the week ending Saturday July 20th : —
G. F. Martin and Co. report : — Business during the past month has been remarkably quiet, and we have very few transactions to report. On Saturday, the 13th inst., we submitted Mr J. H. Menzies's valuable property in the New River District, but notwithstanding the well-known qualities of tbe soil, the offers were far below value, and the whole property ■was withdrawn, and is now held for private treaty. Tho severity of the winter has caused the supply of fat sheep to be very limited, and a considerable rise has resulted. We have sold merino wethers at lls some time since, and now quote them at 12s ; half-breds, 15s to 17s. Prime beef is worth 20s, but hard to procure. The demand for store cattle is gradually increasing, but there is not many changing hands as yet. We have just completed the sale of one mob of 300 head, delivered on the station, at 423 €d, which may be taken as a fair quotation for well-proportioned mobs. Inyercargill, July 22, 1872.
