WALTER H. PEARSON, Immigration Officer. Immigration Office, July 19, 1872. THE Committee of the Invercargill Total Abstinence Society, in submitting the following statement, beg to thank their friends and the public for subscribing so liberally to their funds. In making an appeal about a year ago, the Committee stated their object to be the clearing off of existing liabilities, and if possible, to fence and paint the Hall. The two first they have accomplished, but the state of the funds prevented the latter from being taken in hand. In explanation to those unacquainted with their circumstances, the Committee beg to state that the annual outlay on account of the Building Society is £31 4s "; Municipal rates andjlnsurance, £4 15s, and other incidental expenses, which raises their outlay fully above £40 per annum, of which about one-half is raised in rents ; they would therefore urge on the friends of Temperance the desirability of continuing their subscriptions, so that the Hall may be kept free from debt.
