AN EXPLANATION.
Sib, — Yesterday I was led to discover that a letter in the News of 3rd inst. had escaped mv notice. It ia signed, " For a' this and a' that," has the editor's apparent satisfaction attached, and is composed mostly of positive untruth — whether deliberate or not the writer knows best. My letter (referred to) was elicited by Mr Carden's one on education, in which be expressed contempt for the Bible — the foundation of Christianity. It was therefore Mr Garden who opened a second correspondence, bringing " Romanism!" and the Bible into collision. I can imagine the possibility of a casual correspondent observing carelessly, and transmitting his observations to the Pres», under the impression that they are correct, when they are not so ; but when an approving editorial note is appended to the misrepresentations of a correspondent, I hold that the editor is either deliberately careless or deliberately untruthful. — I am, &c, A Cathohc, bttt not a Papist.
