« Why is a man who makes addition* to false rumors like one who has confidence in all that is told him ? Because he relies on all that he hears. " Ef de white folks be so dark as dat out dar," said a negro who was gazing at some Japanese, " I wonder what is de color ob de black folks ? " " Is there any danger of the boa-con-strictor biting ? " asked a visitor of a zoological showman. " Not the least," replied the showman, " he never bites ; he swallows his wittlea whole." Two Hibernians were passing a stable which had a rooster on it for a weathervane, when one addressed the other thus : " Pat, what's the rason they didn't put a hin up there instead of a rooster ? " " An' sure," replied Pat, " that's asy enough : don't ye see it would be unconv nient to go for the eggs ?" A candidate for a situation as schoolteacher in Florida, being asked the shape of the earth, replied, " Weil, some folks like it round and some likes it flat, and I've jinnerly teached it both ways."
