QUEENSTOWN.
(FBOM OTJR OWN COBBESPOUDEST.') June 29. After one of the finest autumns experienced here for many years, winter fairly set in about the middle of last month, with a great fall of snow, varied by intervals of severe frost. Snowballing and skating became the order of the day, and more or less of the night also. A partial thaw set in on the 23rd, with the usual result of slippery streets and slushy roads. Through the opening of a fine new building, called the Athenaeum and Town Hall, Queenstown has been very gay. On Thursday evening last a grand amateur concert was given under somewhat novel circumstances. There being still Borne shares in the hall, which is a joint-stock concern, unallotted, each holder of a ten shilling ticket for the ball was ailowed a chance, in a lottery, of having a five pound share allotted to his name. The consequence was that the large and beautiful hall of this new building, which is a credit to the promoters, architect, and builders, was densely filled with an expectant audience, who could not have been disappointed with the musical part of the performance. The entertainment never flagged, from overture to finale. A grand ball took place the next evening, which was not so well attended as had been expected, but those present seemed to make up for lack of numbers by the enthusiasm with which they tripped the " light fantastic foe" until an early hour in the morning.
