LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.

LORD TICHBORNE ! Sic, — From the leading article of the Southland News of June 16, I learn that among his other misfortunes the Tichborne claimant has forfeited a seat in the House of Lords by his failure to prove his identity with the missing Bir Roger. I was not before aware that the title of baronet conferred the privilege, or involved responsibility of " service in the hereditary Legislature." Being aware of the encroaching tendency of the governing classes of the old country in the present day, I will be glad to learn from your columns whether baronets have been lately added to the ranks of the nobility. Knowing that your paper appears first, and tbat you are likely to be informed on such a vital question, my impatience will not let me wait for the Saturday's issue of the News.— l am, &c, A Man's a Mak fob a' That. t

£We are glad to be able to relieve our correspondent's anxiety. Baronets are commoners, as every schoolboy who has read the history of England knows. The authority in question evidently knows nothing of the British constitution. But he has all along shown a weakness for " the claimant," and far from deserting his friend since he has got into low water, is now anxioas to elevate him to the peerage ! — Ed. S.T.] ■ a»
