The Parana, a handsome clipper iron schooner, under the-Ifrench flag, arrived in Port Chalmers on the sth inst, from the Mauritius', with sugars consigned .to Messrs Dalgetty, Nichols and, Co. She left Port Louis on the 19th , of _ April, had fair Trades ; on losing them, a succession of S. W. and westerly gules -were experienced, latterly with thick weather, so much so that the sun was not observed for 15 days, till after rounding the Sna»eß on the Ist inst.' On that" day a very heavy westerly gale blew, with high seas — one of •which boarded her, completely filling her decks, and washing away all moveables. Wo learn from "a Dunedin paper that during her late stay at Port Chalmers the Nebraska underwent considerable alterations in her cabin arrangements ; but more particularly in her rig, which was altered to "full brig rig," with large square and foreland aft sails; her lower yards being 75 fegtip. length, and ['others in proportion ; thus enabling her to spread ordinarily yards of canvas, which can be increased at any time when necessary by. large stay— sails. Altogether this fine steamer will leave New Zealand this time in splendid condition, although she has done an amount of work during the last twelve months only equalled by her sister ship, the .Nevada, having tuu a total distance of 72,730 miles, at an average speed of 10£ miles per hour.
