DISTRICT LAND BOARD.

Tuesday, 28th Ma*, 1872. The District Land Board held its usual meeting to day; Present — The Commissioner of - Crown Lands, Messrs Dundas and Bafcer. The application of. John Macintosh for 50 acres . in the Forest Hill Hundred was granted. Hugh Cameron applied for 100 acres in the Waimumu Hundred, bounded on the east by the ' Mataura river, on the south and west by the Waimumu stream, on the north by a liDe at right angles to the main road, to include acreage. The land applied for is part of the Ferry Reserve. A memorandum was read from Mr Donald Eeid, Provincial Secretary for Lands, dated 11th inst., ' as follows :— " It. is intended that Mr Cameron should be allowed to purchase 100 acres without competition. If this is not in accordance with the rules of the Southland Waste Land Board, ■ and if there is a rule that all lands which have been "reserved from sale should be submitted at y public- aMction-rrwhich as a general rule is a very" „, good- one— the .Government will he compelled to' I.- purchase:, and handover to Mr Cameron at upset' ■ ; price.! "Under .the special circumstances connected v i with the case! it would be better if the 100 acres (/-could be.sold to -Cameron without auction, as it .;■ -appears -that certain engagements entered into j-with him by the.late Government of, Southland have not been fulfilled (Signed) D.
